Burgundy and yellow beans Available Now!

Fresh from our garden, planted, maintained and picked by myself and Howie, not a machine, as well as some stunning rainbow chard and spinach, now ready; yellow and burgundy beans! This is the very first pick so we should have some available for a couple of weeks.  They are both heritage varieties, grown organically, no sprays used ever. The burgundy beans do turn green and in fact can be used as a blanching indicator. Place beans into boiling salted water, as soon as the purple beans turn green remove them with a strainer and put them in a cold water bath until cool. Same method can be used for most veg, blanching time needs to be adjusted according to the veg. Greens such as chard and spinach only need a minute, while carrots need a bit longer. Once cooled put them in freezer baggies and freeze for beautifully frozen garden fresh veggies. We live out of our freezer in winter, properly blanched you wouldn't know the difference! This years experiment veggies!

Every year I am in awe of the wonder of nature. We plant a seed, it grows a plant, which flowers and grows fruit/veg. I love watching things grow, I get a warm fuzzy feeling from baby veggies as well as baby humans and critters, and experiment regularly, just to see what things look like! This year we planted a few peanuts, they do resemble the sweet pea plant, they took a long time to germinate. We found some heritage Lemon Cucumber seeds, they taste and grow like a cuc, but are lemon shaped and yellow. I can't wait to see baby them's! Another unusual heritage seed we found is the Mouse Melon, it is tiny, watermelon shaped, but is supposed to taste like a cucumber. A couple of weeks after I had planted them, we were watching a Tiny Homes special show that was showcasing tiny things, they called them cucumber watermelons. They are very cute, and such a dainty little melon plant, so far none are flowering yet, I will post pics of progress.
