Burgundy and yellow beans Available Now!
Fresh from our garden, planted, maintained and picked by myself and Howie, not a machine, as well as some stunning rainbow chard and spinach, now ready; yellow and burgundy beans! This is the very first pick so we should have some available for a couple of weeks. They are both heritage varieties, grown organically, no sprays used ever. The burgundy beans do turn green and in fact can be used as a blanching indicator. Place beans into boiling salted water, as soon as the purple beans turn green remove them with a strainer and put them in a cold water bath until cool. Same method can be used for most veg, blanching time needs to be adjusted according to the veg. Greens such as chard and spinach only need a minute, while carrots need a bit longer. Once cooled put them in freezer baggies and freeze for beautifully frozen garden fresh veggies. We live out of our freezer in winter, properly blanched you wouldn't know the difference!
